Privacy Policy

Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, password, date of birth, and basketball-related profile data such as position, level of play, height, weight, and goals.

Training & performance data. We collect data you provide about your workouts, games, schedule, recovery, nutrition, video uploads, and any shot, drill, or biometric data you choose to log or sync from connected devices (e.g., Apple Health, Google Fit, wearables).

Device & usage data. We automatically collect device identifiers, IP address, operating system, app version, crash logs, and information about how you interact with the Service.

Camera & media. If you use shooting-form analysis features, we process short video clips (up to 30 seconds, 50 MB) and images you capture or upload. Some processing happens on-device; the remainder is sent securely to our servers and, with your consent, to a third-party AI provider for analysis. See AI Features and Third-Party Processing below.

Voice input. If you use voice features, audio you record is transmitted to our servers and, with your consent, to a third-party AI provider for transcription. See AI Features and Third-Party Processing below.

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, personalize, and improve the Service, including generating training, recovery, and nutrition plans.
• Analyze shooting form, performance, and progress using machine learning models.
• Authenticate accounts, prevent fraud, and protect users.
• Send service-related communications and, with your consent, marketing.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

• Service providers who help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, payments, crash reporting) under contractual confidentiality obligations.
• AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) that process specific inputs to power AI features, with your prior consent. See AI Features and Third-Party Processing below for the full list of data, purposes, and protections.
• Coaches and teams only when you explicitly join a team or share your data with them.
• Authorities when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, safety, and property.
• Successors in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

Several HoopCoach features are powered by third-party AI providers. We want you to know exactly what is sent, where it goes, and how it is protected. All AI requests are routed from your device to our HoopCoach API backend, and from there to the provider — your device never calls the providers directly.

AI providers we use.

• OpenAI — chat responses, audio transcription (Whisper), and shooting-form video analysis.
• Anthropic (Claude) — training session generation and coaching insights.

What we send, per feature.

• AI Coach chat. Your text messages, conversation history, and training context (player level, position, recent sessions, readiness metrics, match countdown, language preference) are sent to OpenAI to generate the reply.
• Voice input. Audio you record is sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription, then discarded after the transcript is returned.
• Shooting-form video analysis. Short video clips you upload (up to 30 seconds, 50 MB) are processed via an OpenAI vision model to extract frames and generate feedback on your form.
• Training session generation. Your available equipment, session duration, focus area, language preference, and profile context (level, position, ambitions) are sent to Anthropic Claude to build the session.
• Daily coaching tip / AI suggestions. Your language preference and aggregated training context (readiness, training load, recent session counts) are sent to Anthropic Claude.
• Session feedback & refinement. Your RPE rating, focus area, and any free-text feedback you submit are sent to Anthropic Claude to refine future sessions.

Provider protections. OpenAI and Anthropic process this data under their own privacy terms — OpenAI Privacy Policy and Anthropic Privacy Policy. Under the API terms we operate on, your data is not used to train OpenAI’s or Anthropic’s models. The providers offer privacy protections substantially equivalent to those described in this Policy.

Your consent and control. Before any data is sent to an AI provider, you must explicitly consent in-app — a disclosure sheet describing this processing appears on first use of an AI feature. You can revoke consent at any time from Profile → AI data sharing. Once revoked, AI features become unavailable until you re-grant consent; non-AI features of the Service continue to work normally.

Retention of AI inputs and outputs.

• Chat history. Your AI Coach conversations are stored on HoopCoach servers until you delete the conversation or your account.
• Voice recordings. Raw audio is discarded as soon as transcription completes; only the resulting transcript is retained, as part of the chat history above.
• Video analysis. The short clips you upload and the analysis results are retained with your account until you delete them or your account.
• Generated sessions, tips, and feedback. Outputs are stored with your training history and removed when you delete the related item or your account.

HoopCoach is designed for athletes 13 and older. If you are between 13 and 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have done so, we will delete it.

For users under 18, parents or guardians may request access, correction, or deletion of their child’s data by emailing privacy@hoopcoach.ai.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time from within the app or by contacting us. Retention of data sent to AI providers is described in AI Features and Third-Party Processing above. We may retain limited information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Residents of California, the EU/EEA, the UK, and other regions have additional rights under applicable law (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, etc.).

HoopCoach is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.

The Service may link to or integrate with third-party services (e.g., Apple Health, Google Fit, Stripe, App Store, Google Play). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, which we encourage you to read.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will notify you through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
